Anise Cookies

Anise Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon anise extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon anise extract
  • Colored sprinkles (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 5

Mix in the vanilla extract and anise extract.

Step 6

Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mixing until just combined.

Step 7

Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.

Step 9

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

To make the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and anise extract until smooth. Dip the tops of the cooled cookies into the glaze and decorate with colored sprinkles, if desired.

Step 11

Allow the glaze to set before serving.
