Fried Catfish

Fried Catfish

Ingredients

  • 4 catfish fillets
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions

Step 1

In a shallow dish, mix together the cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.

Step 2

In another shallow dish, pour in the buttermilk.

Step 3

Dip each catfish fillet into the buttermilk, then coat it in the cornmeal mixture, making sure it's evenly coated on all sides.

Step 4

In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat, until it reaches about 350°F.

Step 5

Carefully place the catfish fillets into the hot oil, and fry them for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until they're golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Remove the catfish from the skillet with a slotted spoon, and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Step 7

Serve the fried catfish hot, with your choice of sides, such as hushpuppies, coleslaw, or fries.
