How to make crab boil

How to make crab boil

Ingredients

  • 3 gallons of water
  • 1 cup of kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup of Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/2 cup of crab boil seasoning
  • 2 lemons, halved
  • 2 onions, quartered
  • 2 garlic heads, halved
  • 1 pound of small red potatoes
  • 4 ears of corn, cut in half
  • 2 pounds of smoked sausage, sliced
  • 4 pounds of live blue crabs

Directions

Step 1

Fill a large stockpot with 3 gallons of water and bring it to a boil over high heat.

Step 2

Add the kosher salt, Old Bay seasoning, crab boil seasoning, and lemons to the pot. Stir to combine.

Step 3

Add the onions and garlic to the pot and continue boiling for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Add the red potatoes to the pot and boil for 10 minutes.

Step 5

Add the corn and sausage to the pot and boil for an additional 10 minutes.

Step 6

Add the live blue crabs to the pot and boil for 10-15 minutes or until the crabs turn a bright orange color.

Step 7

Turn off the heat and let the crab boil sit in the pot for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 8

Using a slotted spoon, transfer the potatoes, corn, sausage, and crabs to a large serving platter.

Step 9

Serve the crab boil with melted butter and lemon wedges on the side.
