Mashed Potatoes

Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of potatoes (russet or Yukon gold)
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup of unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped fresh herbs (such as parsley or chives)

Directions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and let the potatoes simmer until they are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 2

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the butter and use a potato masher or fork to mash the potatoes until they are smooth.

Step 3

Heat the milk in a small saucepan or in the microwave until it's warm, but not boiling. Add the warm milk to the mashed potatoes, a little at a time, stirring until the potatoes are creamy and smooth. You can add more or less milk to achieve your desired consistency.

Step 4

Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper to taste. If desired, you can also add minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, or chopped fresh herbs for extra flavor.

Step 5

Serve hot and enjoy your delicious and comforting mashed potatoes!
