Corned Beef and Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds corned beef brisket
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1 head of cabbage, chopped
  • 6-8 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • Corned beef and cabbage is a classic Irish-American dish that is perfect for St. Patrick's Day or any day you're in the mood for a hearty meal. Here's a simple recipe for making corned beef and cabbage: Ingredients: 3-4 pounds corned beef brisket 8 cups water 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 bay leaves 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns 1 head of cabbage, chopped 6-8 medium-sized potatoes, peeled and quartered 4-6 carrots, peeled and chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions

Step 1

In a large pot, combine the corned beef brisket, water, onion, garlic, bay leaves, and black peppercorns.

Step 2

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours, or until the corned beef is tender.

Step 3

Remove the corned beef from the pot and set it aside to rest.

Step 4

Add the chopped cabbage, potatoes, and carrots to the pot and simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.

Step 5

Season the vegetables with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6
