Lasagna

Ingredients

For the meat sauce:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground sausage
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste

For the cheese mixture:

  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt

For assembly:

  • 12 lasagna noodles (cooked according to package instructions)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the meat sauce:

    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté diced onion until soft.
    • Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add ground beef and sausage, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
    • Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the cheese mixture:

    • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and salt.
  3. Assemble the lasagna:

    • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish.
    • Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by 1/3 of the cheese mixture and 1/3 of the meat sauce. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used.
    • Top with remaining shredded mozzarella cheese.
  4. Bake:

    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
  5. Serve:

    • Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
