Teppanyaki Recipe

Teppanyaki Recipe

Teppanyaki, a Japanese style of cooking that uses an iron griddle, is famous for its theatrical preparation and delicious flavors. Here's a basic recipe to make a simple Teppanyaki dish at home:

Ingredients:

  1. Protein - Choose from thinly sliced beef, chicken, shrimp, or tofu.
  2. Vegetables - Common choices include bell peppers, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and zucchini, all sliced for easy cooking.
  3. Oil - Sesame oil or vegetable oil for cooking.
  4. Garlic - Finely chopped or minced.
  5. Soy sauce - For seasoning.
  6. Salt and pepper - To taste.
  7. Butter - Adds richness to the dish.
  8. Optional: Lemon juice or sake for extra flavor.
  9. Cooked rice or noodles - To serve with the Teppanyaki.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:

    • Slice the protein and vegetables into bite-sized pieces.
    • If using beef or chicken, season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the Griddle:

    • Heat your griddle or a large flat pan over medium-high heat.
    • Add a small amount of oil and a little butter to the griddle.
  3. Cook Protein and Vegetables:

    • Start by cooking the protein (beef, chicken, shrimp, or tofu). Cook until it's almost done, then set aside on a separate plate.
    • Add a bit more oil if needed, then add the vegetables. Commonly, harder vegetables like carrots go in first, followed by items like bell peppers and onions.
    • Add garlic and stir frequently to prevent burning. Cook until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  4. Combine and Season:

    • Bring the protein back to the griddle with the vegetables.
    • Season with soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Add lemon juice or sake if desired.
    • Stir everything together until well combined and heated through.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve the Teppanyaki hot, alongside cooked rice or noodles.

Enjoy your Teppanyaki dish! Remember, Teppanyaki is very versatile, so feel free to include your favorite ingredients and adjust the seasonings to your taste.
