Moroccan Kefta (Spiced Meatballs) Recipe

Moroccan Kefta (Spiced Meatballs) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or lamb (or a mix of both)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Olive oil, for brushing (if grilling or baking)

Instructions:

  1. Combine Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, mix together the ground meat, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Knead the mixture with your hands until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
  2. Form the Kefta:

    • Take small amounts of the meat mixture and roll into balls or shape into small sausages about the size of a golf ball. Flatten them slightly to ensure even cooking.
  3. Cook the Kefta:

    • Grilling: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Brush each kefta with a bit of olive oil and grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and nicely charred on the outside.
    • Baking: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the kefta on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with olive oil. Bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Serving:

    • Serve the Moroccan Kefta hot, garnished with additional chopped parsley or cilantro. They can be served with a side of tzatziki sauce, tahini, or a simple yogurt dip, along with warm flatbread or rice.

Serving Suggestions:

Moroccan Kefta can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. They make a great addition to sandwiches, wraps, or salads. For a traditional Moroccan meal, serve them alongside couscous, vegetable dishes, or a simple salad for a complete and satisfying meal.
